Plastic Waste Free Islands Med Final Event 17.2.2022
The Plastic Waste Free Islands Med Final Event will be held in Cyprus aiming to address plastic pollution and the impacts of plastics in the Mediterranean.
The Plastic Waste Free Islands Med Final Event (PWFI) is being organised by Cyprus Sustainable Tourism Initiative (CSTI) with the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) and Together Cyprus in the framework of the IUCN “Close the Plastic Tap Programme”.
The event is under the auspices of the Deputy Minister of Tourism and includes presentations by IUCN representatives, CSTI and Together Cyprus with the following topics: “Solutions to the plastic pollution crisis”, “Economic assessment of marine plastics, evidence from IUCN projects”, “Results of the PWFI Med project in Cyprus”, and “The current initiatives on plastics in Cyprus”. The presentations will be followed by a panel discussion with the subject “Tackling Plastic Pollution”. The panel will consist of representatives of IUCN Med, the Department of Environment, the Department of Fisheries and Marine Research, the hospitality industry and the Cyprus Sustainable Tourism Initiative (CSTI). The Cultural Performance will be by the Tat-Tnabar Group. The musical instruments that they use are recycled materials. A cocktail reception will follow the event. The ‘Keep Our Sand and Sea Plastic Free’ project photo exhibition «Plastic Pollution – another threat to the beauty of our sand and sea & key contributor to environmental degradation», funded by the British High Commission in Cyprus, will be on display.
The Plastic Waste-Free Islands Mediterranean project’s goal is to drive the circular economy agenda forward and to reduce plastic waste generation and leakage from islands. The initiative was launched in 2019 by IUCN-Med with support from the Didier and Martine Primat Foundation as part of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN)’s global “Close the Plastic Tap Programme”. The Cyprus Sustainable Tourism Initiative (CSTI) and Together Cyprus are responsible for the project’s coordination in Cyprus.
CSTI, the Leading Organisation of Sustainable Tourism in Cyprus since 2006, is committed to the protection of the environment. CSTI continues its focused efforts of awareness raising and education for reducing the pollution of our seas and rivers.
The event will be held on Thursday 17 February 2022, 18:00 at Melina Mercouri Hall in Nicosia.
The event will be held in English and registration is required to attend.
Η τελική εκδήλωση του προγράμματος Plastic Waste Free Islands Med θα διεξαχθεί στην Κύπρο με στόχο την αντιμετώπιση της πλαστικής ρύπανσης και των επιπτώσεων των πλαστικών στη Μεσόγειο.
Η τελική εκδήλωση του προγράμματος Plastic Waste Free Islands Med (PWFI) διοργανώνεται από τον Κυπριακό Σύνδεσμο Αειφόρου Τουρισμού (CSTI) μαζί με την International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) και το Together Cyprus, στο πλαίσιο του προγράμματος “Close the Plastic Tap”.
Η εκδήλωση τελεί υπό την αιγίδα του Υφυπουργού Τουρισμού και θα περιλαμβάνει παρουσιάσεις από αντιπροσώπους της IUCN καθώς και από τους οργανισμούς CSTI και Together Cyprus στα εξής θέματα: «Λύσεις για την πλαστική ρύπανση», «Οικονομική αξιολόγηση των θαλάσσιων πλαστικών, στοιχεία από έργα της IUCN», «Αποτελέσματα του έργου PWFI Med στην Κύπρο» και «Τρέχουσες πρωτοβουλίες για τα πλαστικά στην Κύπρο». Μετά τις παρουσιάσεις θα ακολουθήσει συζήτηση με θέμα «Αντιμετώπιση της Πλαστικής Ρύπανσης». Στο πάνελ θα συμμετάσχουν εκπρόσωποι της IUCN Med, του Τμήματος Περιβάλλοντος, του Τμήματος Αλιείας, της Τουριστικής Βιομηχανίας και του Κυπριακού Συνδέσμου Αειφόρου Τουρισμού (CSTI). Το σύνολο Tat-Tnabar, το οποίο χρησιμοποιεί μουσικά όργανα από ανακυκλωμένα υλικά, θα ηγηθεί της πολιτιστικής παράστασης. Θα ακολουθήσει δεξίωση. Στη εκδήλωση επίσης θα εκτεθεί η έκθεση φωτογραφίας με τίτλο «Πλαστική Ρύπανση – μια ακόμα απειλή για τις ομορφιές των ακτών και της θάλασσας & βασικός παράγοντας καταστροφής του περιβάλλοντος», του προγράμματος ‘Keep Our Sand and Sea Plastic Free’. Η έκθεση χρηματοδοτήθηκε από την Ύπατη Αρμοστεία του Η.Β.
Ο στόχος του προγράμματος Plastic Waste-Free Islands Mediterranean είναι να προωθήσει την ατζέντα της κυκλικής οικονομίας και να μειώσει την παραγωγή και διαρροή πλαστικών απορριμμάτων από τα νησιά. Η πρωτοβουλία αυτή ξεκίνησε το 2019 από την IUCN-Med με την υποστήριξη του Ιδρύματος Didier and Martine Primat ως μέρος του παγκόσμιου προγράμματος «Close the plastic tap» της IUCN. O Κυπριακός Σύνδεσμος Αειφόρου Τουρισμού (CSTI) και το Together Cyprus είναι υπεύθυνοι για το συντονισμό του έργου στην Κύπρο.
Ο Κυπριακός Σύνδεσμος Αειφόρου Τουρισμού (CSTI), που ηγείται πρωτοβουλιών και δράσεων για την αειφόρα ανάπτυξη στον τουρισμό από το 2006, δεσμεύεται για την προστασία του περιβάλλοντος. Ο CSTI θα συνεχίσει τις προσπάθειες του με σκοπό την εκπαίδευση και ευαισθητοποίηση του κοινού με στόχο τη μείωση της ρύπανσης των θαλασσών και των ποταμών μας.
Η εκδήλωση θα πραγματοποιηθεί τη Πέμπτη 17 Φεβρουαρίου 2022, 18:00 στην αίθουσα Μελίνα Μερκούρη στη Λευκωσία. Η εκδήλωση θα πραγματοποιηθεί στα αγγλικά και είναι απαραίτητη η εγγραφή για τη συμμετοχή.
