Plastic Free Beach Wins Sustainable Development Award
We are proud to announce that the Plastic Free Beach initiative has been awarded a Cash Prize at the Sustainable Development Award Ceremony for NGOs at the Presidential Palace, recognising impactful actions that contribute to the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Cyprus.
The Plastic Free Beach initiative is part of the project “Keep our Sand and Sea Plastic Free, Destination Zero Waste in Cyprus and Greece”, an initiative by the TUI Care Foundation in partnership with the Cyprus Sustainable Tourism Initiative (CSTI).
Plastic Free Beaches transform the coastline into a space for environmental education, inspiration, and action. Through targeted infrastructure, awareness tools, and practical solutions, the initiative facilitate the beach visitors in reducing or avoiding single-use plastics, while encouraging simple, sustainable habits that extend beyond the beach and into everyday life.
Philippos Drousiotis, Executive Chairman of CSTI, stated:

Plastic Free Beaches prove that sustainable tourism can protect the environment, empower local communities, and inspire active citizens to take action against plastic pollution.”
The Sustainable Development Awards for NGOs are organised by the Directorate General Growth, Ministry of Finance, the Office of the Commissioner for the Environment and Animal Welfare, the Pancyprian Volunteerism Coordinative Council, and CSR Cyprus, honouring initiatives that actively advance sustainability across Cyprus. We sincerely thank the organisers for recognising the efforts of the Plastic Free Beach initiative.
